Today is the first Mood Board Monday party of 2012 hosted by Sarah at pewter+sage. Of the three options that Sarah chose as inspiration, I went with this photography by Carl Christensen as my inspiration for the board.
The photography and Windsor bench were my starting points. I added in the neutral fabrics, pillow, and wallpaper and then kept building from there. I also wanted to do a few framed black and white art prints and photography to include their love for the beach.
Two types of lighting are included in the plan - a flush mount for overhead in the entry and then two sconces on either side of the mirror.
I love the accessories in this entry. The hammered bin next to the bench can be used for umbrellas or shoes. The bins under the console can be used for hats, gloves, or anything else the home owners need before leaving the house. I also included a box on the console to be able to access keys, sunglasses, important mail or paperwork, etc.
Mixing finishes, metals, and wood was also a goal of this entry as well.
Sources for my selections:
wallpaper - Candice Olson - so many great selections in her wallpaper collection. I've had a chance to view these in person and they are really pretty.

I think I've got everything included in the sources above. If I forgot anything that you have questions about let me know.
I'll be going over to check out the rest of the boards at Pewter+Sage as well as sharing my board over there as well. Head on over and take a look what everyone else decided to do with the inspiration pieces. You're bound to get some great ideas!
Hope you had a great weekend!

It's beautiful! Love that wallpaper and those sconces are perfect.
ReplyDeleteHolly, this is gorgeous! I LOVE how you've pulled from the dark accents in the photo for your accessories. And, the rug is brilliant to tie it all together.
ReplyDeleteLove that settee! Just pinned it.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Holly. The photography you chose is stunning and would make such a statement in an entry. More than anything, I love that it is as functional as it is pretty. I would love an entry like this!
ReplyDeleteHi, Holly!! Wow! This is totally not what I expected and its making me smile!!! That fall photograph is going to POP in this space!!! So cool! Its so great that you gave yourself a bit of an imaginary client, it always makes this somewhat harder and its commendable. And an entry?! Such an interesting room to tackle. I love how you have mixed classic and traditional with casual and nautical, such a pretty look! I would love to walk into this everyday. I have always loved those melongings pillows! And that rug, the hammered bin, the console table, the wallpaper...gorgeous!!! Another amazing job for MBM, thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat Windsor bench made me smile! Love your choice of modern prints above it and the b & w accessories to pull it all together. The rug is perfect, it reminded me of Deborah's 10 Essentail Elements - you have a lot of them right here!
ReplyDeleteLots of nice pieces to pull this look together... and I'm a huge fan of Candice Olson - can never go wrong there! I love, love the mirror and the table :-)
ReplyDeleteLove how you pulled this together Holly! I sense that this could very well be your foyer someday (the Windsor bench is my clue)! Love the black and white accents with the bold photo and I am always a sucker for a more traditional rug. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing entry Holly. I love the unique furniture pieces and that incredible rug. Lovely to see a room using the photograph!
ReplyDeleteHolly, nicely done once again. I wouldn't have thought of this mix of textures and colors, but everything works so well together. My favorites are the wallpaper (grasscloth?) and the black and white prints.
ReplyDeleteI love this mood board! Great job! I can definitely see a windsor bench too! And I love the wallpaper and rug. Beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteHolly this is really, really great! I love how you carried the linear feel from the photograph into some of the other elements and then the rug just gives it that eclectic, not matchy-matchy look. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI love the visual effect of the board on first sight - black furniture and accessories against that stunning yellow photograph, Holly. This was my second choice for this party. Your pieces are well thought out. The amazing rug and the Windsor chair do not compete with the inspiration piece. Very stylish.
ReplyDeleteI so need to polish my skills with mood boards.....I love this one!
ReplyDeleteHey Holly, I love your board! I had trouble deciding between that piece and the canvas I chose. I love the idea of fresh, modern artwork and the classic windsor bench. Well done!
